Cure For Cancer

An ambitious goal, yes, but one we can all work towards. Numerous scientific studies have shown chemicals and contaminants in food, air, water, and everyday products cause or increase the risk of getting cancer.
We CAN make more informed decisions on the products that we choose to use!

This is a list of information I have found researching known causes of cancers that are preventable by avoiding or eliminating exposure to certain chemicals or contaminants. I will be routinely updating this post with new information as there is a lot of it. A carcinogen is a substance directly involved in causing cancer.

HAIR DYES
Over 5,000 different chemicals are used in hair dye products, some of which are reported to be carcinogenic (cancer-causing) in animals (23). Because so many people use hair dyes, scientists have tried to determine whether exposure to the chemicals in hair coloring products is associated with an increased risk of cancer in people.
Over the years, some epidemiologic (population) studies have found an increased risk of bladder cancer in hairdressers and barbers (25). A 2008 report of the Working Group of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that some of the chemicals these workers are exposed to occupationally are “probably carcinogenic to humans” (6).

FORMALDEHYDE is classified as a known human carcinogen, while 1,4-DIOXANE is listed as "reasonably anticipated" to be a human carcinogen, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Formaldehyde can also cause skin rashes in sensitive children.

Avoid using products that list ingredients that may be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, including:
  • sodium myreth sulfate
  • PEG compounds
  • chemicals that include the clauses "xynol," "ceteareth" and "oleth"
2. Avoid products that contain formaldehye-releasing preservatives, including:
PARABENS: (methyl, propyl, ethyl, isobutyl, butyl, benzyl) petro-chemicals, implicated in a multitude of health problems, estrogenic, cancer causing, allergenic, found in cancerous breast tissue, possibly replicates in dna, stored in fat cells.

PEG INGREDIENTS: carcinogens, acne promoters, contact dermatitis
PETROLEUM: (petrolatum, mineral oils, vaseline) acne producing, may be carcinogenic, causes long term dry skin, respiratory toxin.

PHTHALATES: such as dibutyl phthalate (DBP), not necessarily mentioned on a label, look out for those convenient, squeezable plastics and by all means don't heat them! Reproductive toxins, birth defects of the male reproductive system, carcinogens, mutation agents, stored in fat cells. Commonly found in many cosmetic products and nail polish.

PVP: widely used synthetic polymer, cancer causing

STEARIC: (acid and others) carcinogens, skin irritants, comedogenic

SILICA: known human carcinogen. May be in the form of tiny particles of glass, sand, or bits of ground quartz from mining operations, or even an extract from horsetail plant.

HYDROXYMETHYL GLYCINATE: releases formaldehyde, a known cancer agent

TALC: can contain asbestos, do not use on babies, linked to ovarian and lung cancers

TEA INGREDIENTS: (not tea, but rather ingredients with TEA in front) severe irritants, can contain ammonium salts, eye irritant, sensitizer, may cause formation of carcinogens

More To Come...Do you know something that causes cancer that's not on the list? Leave a comment!
